Jack

Jack was one of the first people we met in Milton. We often see him on the front porch of Aunt Millie’s Pizza, drinking an iced tea or a beer in the afternoons. We love it when we can sit down and join him!

Jack, you’re retired now– but what did your job used to be?

Do you want all my jobs? I go way back. In High School I worked at Smith Brandon Store (run by current Mayor Harriet’s family, that store is closed now) right on Main street (now called Broad St). I went to college in ’51, joined the navy in ’53, and in ’57 got out and worked for CIT installing office equipment and telephones. More recently I worked in Kmart in Danville managing the sporting goods section. I retired at 62, but kept working for 10 years for Nielson Ratings. Now I’m really done!

What is something you’ve never done that you hope to do?

Drive a race car.

What is your advice for future generations?

Lordy, let’s see. Leave drugs alone. Respect other’s property and life. Be thrifty.

What does the phrase “I am an American” mean to you?

It means everything. I’m glad to be an American.
