PearlDamour visits schools in all of the Miltons. In Oregon, we have been doing writing and performance workshops with Ms. Baneck’s middle school class based on the play MILTON. Here’s an interview with one of the students in that class –
How old are you?
I am 14 years old.
What makes you proud of your city?
I’m most proud of my city because of all the frog statues.
What is a dream you have for your life?
My biggest dream of my life is to move to London, England, United Kingdom and become a homicide detective.
If you could change one thing about the world, what would it be?
My hope for this country is that equality and justice will be served rightfully and that more people will stand up for what is right in the world instead of just standing around watching.
In our workshops we ask students to think about who they are and where they come from. Here is a poem Sienna wrote in response to these questions:
I come from my mother, sisters and brothers, nieces and nephews, and friends back in the Cornhusker State.
I come from cornbread fresh out of the oven all year round.
I come from steaming hot biscuits and gravy off the stove in the winter-time.
I come from peacefully enjoying a book then hearing one of my siblings yell “Sienna, mere!”
I come from watching Youtube far past midnight, and not being able to wake in the morning.
I come from reading and getting pulled into a story and living through a character’s eyes.
