Where are you right now?
I’m at work, at Saeger’s shoe store. I’ve worked here for lots of years. Saeger’s is a special shoe store– people come from all over to buy shoes here, and also to get their shoes fixed. There aren’t many of us around anymore. I’m just now training in someone to take my place so I can finally retire. There’s a lot to teach him.
So you’re a cobbler?
We don’t call it cobbler anymore. It’s more like ‘shoe technician’.
What has your job taught you about the world?
Shoes aren’t made like they used to be made. Unless you get a good cowboy boot– that’ll last. Otherwise, people are too ready to throw things away.
